Nutrition Information Panel (NIP)

New Zealand Food Composition Data for Nutrition Information Panel (NZFCD-NIP) is an online tool designed to assist food manufacturers in estimating NIPs for their products. The NZFCD-NIP database, which is updated at the same time as FOODfiles, presents seven core nutrients for 2574 foods and ingredients. You need to register / login in order to search the NZFCD-NIP database for food matching specific keywords or Food ID.

The energy values for NIP are calculated by both options listed in the Standard 1.2.8 (Food Standards Australia New Zealand 2013). The energy values are reported as kilocalories (kcal) and as kilojoules (kJ). The values are calculated from the energy-producing food components (carbohydrate, available; protein; fat, total; and alcohol) with and without dietary fibre and other energy producing food components, using the appropriate energy conversion factors.

These energy values are explained below:

Energy, total metabolisable, carbohydrate by difference:
The FSANZ value is calculated according to Standard 1.2.8. The energy-producing food components taken into account are: protein; carbohydrates by difference; fat, total; alcohol, dietary fibre and organic acids.

Energy, total metabolisable, available carbohydrates:
The FSANZ value is calculated according to Standard 1.2.8. The energy-producing food components taken into account are: protein; available carbohydrates; fat, total; alcohol, dietary fibre and organic acids.
